MakeUp Revolution Rainbow Highlighter

I've been dying to get my hands on a rainbow highlighter for literally ages! I feel like they are all over the internet but never in store and I'm really not a fan of online shopping so I never managed to get one until now.

I'd seen the new released from Makeup Revolution all over youtube and mostly Instagram but often those new released take forever to get to store and then they sell out anyway. I was so pleased when I saw this little lovely on a fully stocked stand in Superdrug!

Let's start with the packaging, I'm a fan but I'm not all at the same time, you get a lovely huge pan of product making the highlight great cost wise but also easy to use and be able to pick up shades separately or swirled all together. I also like how thin the compact is, it is very sleek and easy to store.
What I don't like however is the holographic details because firstly holographic and rainbow are not related so it doesn't make sense and also you cant read the writing because the holographic details are so overpowering.

I think in general the packaging looks cheap but it is sturdy and easy to use so it isn't entirely a fail.

The wow comes when with the product itself though! Look at these swatches! They are literally mesmerising!

You can easy pick out each shade separately with a small brush especially meaning that you get 5 different colour highlighters or 6 if you swirl them all together to make the beautiful blue grey swatched below.

All 5 colours make lovely highlighters, all highly pigmented, smooth and blendable.

The easiest way to use this highlighter is to just swirl them all together, the highlight shade you are left with is a blue tones grey/silver but I do think you can see slight shimmers of the other colours if you look close enough. I personally really like using it this way as it is the most wearable way but it is still a stand out/unique shade.

Overall, I really like this highlight! I can't imagine it become a new favourite or something ill wear every day but I can see myself reaching for it from time to time when I fancy something unique!

Have you tried any rainbow highlighters? Should I try some others or are they all the same?

Summer Nail Polishes

Ok, so what I really should name this post is "Nail Polishes That Look Cute With My Engagement Ring" but we will go with Summer Polishes!

Usually my summer go to colours are oranges, pinks and blues but this summer I'm really loving the more understated shades as they look so much more sophisticated and I'm feeling a whole lot more grown up lately!

From Left to Right

One: Kiko Milano - 303

This nail polish is by far my favourite, it's a really unique metallic pinky grey shade. It's hard to explain but it is lovely. The polish itself is quite a thin but opaque formula so it applies like a dream and only requires one to two coats. It is super long wearing which is just the dream really and when it does chip, you can barely see it.

It also sparkles like crazy in the sunshine.

Two: Seventeen Colour Carnival - Nude 010

I have a love hate relationship with this one, it is the most classic pinky nude, very sophisticated and ladylike but the polish itself is quite hard to apply as it is very thick and almost gloopy. I tend to persevere though as it looks incredible!

Three: Craptree & Evelyn - Slate

This little lovely is a big commitment as it is quite dark so show up chips so badly but it is a beautiful slate grey shade which really makes my ring pop! It also adds a little edge to your look without being too over the top.

Four: Kiko Milano 330

It's summer so I've had to include something bright! The same incredible formula as the first polish I mentioned but it a gorgeous lilac shade. It is still quite understated compared to a lot of summer polishes but it adds a little pop of colour on a bright and sunny day!

Five & Six: Ted Baked

These little babies came in a Ted Baked gift set I got for Christmas, they don't have shade names and I'm not sure you can even buy them anymore but I HAD to mention them as they are by far my most worn recently. Both shades are very sheer and natural which is why I like them, they just add a healthy, put together look to your nails which is exactly what you want with a new rock on your left hand! They also last well over a week on me which is pretty much unheard of.

What are you go to nail polishes? I need to try some new brands!

My First Taste of ELF...

Elf is a huge brand but for us in the UK it is brand new! Having only just released in Superdrug. I've been hearing about the brand for absolutely years via youtube so I was super excited to try it out!

KathleenLights has mentioned the Baked Highlighters so many times on her youtube channel and raved about how much she loves them so I thought they would be a good place to start!

The packing is what you would expect for the low price point, entirely plastic with a black pan and clear lid. The packaging does the job but I don't feel like it's anything special, it is nice to be able to see the product easily through the clear lid though.

I do feel that the pan itself is rather small. It is more of an eyeshadow size than a highlighter.

One first swatch, I got literally no pay off at all. None.

I wasn't too fazed though as I was aware through many youtubers/bloggers that you might need to scrape off a layer of product in order to unleash the highlights full potential. I do think it is pretty crappy that you should need to do this but it does work so I used a pair of tweezers to scrape away a layer and in doing so covered everything I own in highlighter.

Thumbs down there.

The swatch above shows after the layer has been scraped away, as you can see it is quite pigmented and the shade is quite lovely. I was pretty excited after seeing this swatch to put it on my face but I should have saved my excitement because on the face, it's pretty naff.

It is extremely dusty and dry, it doesn't show up as pigmented as the swatch and in general it just isn't very good. I wouldn't recommend it at all unfortunately.

Although this particular product didn't wow me, I do want to try something else to give the brand a fair go so if you have an suggesting of what I should try next, let me know!

Collection Highlight, Blush and Bronze Kit

The original Collection Highlight and Sculpt kit is incredible! I've hit pan on it like crazy so when I saw this new release in Superdrug it went straight in my basket.

The palette costs a modest £4.99 and contains a bronze, blush and highlight. It is a very compact and sturdy little palette which would be great for travelling or to carry in your handbag.

The packaging is a step up from the original, a little smaller and a little sleeker which is nice but it does make the bronze shade a little harder to use as you can't as easily swirl a large fluffy brush it it.

The fingertip swatches above show my having had a really good scrub into the product so we can see the full impact of each product.

The contour is a lovely warm terracotta brown, I didn't think it would work very well for me but it actually does. I am quite tanned at the moment so it actually looks quite natural but I'm thinking that once my tan fades and my ghost skin returns, it might not work so well.

The blush is a very light baby pink with heavy glitters. It is a bizarre choice for this palette, a matte blush would have been better.

The highlight is your typical champagne glow and it looks pretty pigmented from this swatch but it is also something we have all seen before. I definitely already own a lot of other similar highlighters.

Blended out, they are all a lot sheerer than they first appeared.

The highlight is alright, it does the job and it is pretty but it isnt great. I can't see myself reaching for it.

The blush is very chunky with glitter which makes it look uneven on the skin and I don't think that the colour suits me much. It washes me out.

The bronzer is nice, it also does the job but it is very sheer, taking a while to build up enough.

I will work with the palette for a week or so and update you but so far, I'm not particularly impressed...

UPDATE: I have used this palette for a good week now. I couldn't use the blush or highlight much because they just did nothing for me, no pay off and no staying power. I did however like the bronzer,  I have countless other bronzers that I like more though so I can't imagine it reach for this much.

I think that if you are new to makeup then this could be a helpful little palette for you but for more experienced makeup lovers, maybe this one isn't for you.

Top Five Urban Decay Products in Collaboration with "Retrospect of a Mermaid"

I’m Coli & I love posting on my blog ‘Retrospect of a Mermaid’. Today I’m so happy to write a guest post on Amy’s lovely blog.

So I’m sharing my Top 5 Urban Decay Products. If you’ve read my blog you’ll know I’m a bit obsessed with this incredible brand, they were the first makeup brand I truly feel in love with & ever since the obsession has just grown. I love the daring edge they add to the beauty industry! So I’ll admit it’s difficult to cut it down, but I’ve decided to share my 5 “Must Have” products.

1. A Palette –

Urban Decay is known for their palettes, mostly their ‘Naked’ palettes. It’s your choice of which one, my advice would be to get in store & try swatch one or two. Some people have preferences on what shades they wear or often like to base it off their own colouring. If you still can’t decide & I had to chose one to suggest it would have to be the ‘Ultimate Basics’ palette – matte & such pretty shades, there’s endless possibilities - you need it!

2. A Lipstick –

‘Lipstick is my Vice’ - well it definitely will be when there is 100 to decide from, with 6 finishes & a liner to match most shades. I highly recommend trying an Urban Decay Lipstick. From the packaging to the pigment I really love these lipsticks. Shades I recommend: Back Talk, Rush, Stark Naked & 1993.

3. Setting Spray –

A ‘Holy Grail’ product in my makeup bag (I’d say in most makeup loving peoples) has to be ‘All Nighter’ setting spray. It’s so refreshing & honestly makes my makeup last all day. It’s fantastic & I love the packaging revamp, plus it comes in a very handy travel size, perfect for your handbag.

4. Foundation –

I struggled to find a makeup that really worked with my skin type, until Urban Decay brought out their ‘All Nighter Foundation’ being full coverage & long wear is brilliant. Plus the huge range of shades, I’m so pale & so in-between shades yet shade 3.25 suits me perfectly. It’s so buildable & blendable. I honestly love this foundation & recommend it to everyone, at least try it out!

5. Perversion –

Maybe it’s cheating, okay it is mega cheating but you have to try at least one of the ‘Perversion’ products from Urban Decay. “All Black Everything” is probably my life motto!
· ‘Perversion’ Mascara, it really lives up to the ‘Bigger, Blacker, Badder’ vibe. It’s a must have in my makeup bag.
· Be very daring & pair the Perversion lipstick & matching liner. Not an everyday lipstick but something different to have in your collection.
· 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil, the Razor Sharp Longwear Liquid Liner or Fine Point Eye Pencil are all Black eye liner options! I love using them for sharp black smoky eye looks, it’s worth having at least one in your collection!

All available to buy from Urban Decay online or if you have a local Store/Counter. So there you have it, my 5 Urban Decay products you ‘must have’ in your makeup bag. As I said it was hard to decide, they have so many products that I love. So what’s your favourite Urban Decay product? Any you could recommend? I love hearing from you so comment & link me your posts!
If you liked this post please drop over to my blog & have a read of some of my others posts! And again thanks so much to the lovely Amy for letting me be a guest writer on her blog!

As always, Thanks for reading! And until next time!

My Top Five Brow Products

Filling in my eyebrows is literally the most important part of my makeup routine. If I could only wear one makeup item and had to have the rest of my face bare, I would do my eyebrows. They frame the face and immediately make you look so much more awake and put together.

I am a die hard powder fan so most of my faves are powders but I do like a pomade every now and then or a pencil when I'm feeling lazy.

One: Makeup Obsession Brow Powder in Dark Brown

This is a little star, only £3 and so incredible good! These can be used as part of the Makeup Obsession customisable palette system or alone which is great because you could build your own brow kit full of different shades. Bur I'm not a makeup artist so just the one will do me just fine, the dark shade is perfect for me, buttery, pigmented and so easy to apply. But I like the lighter shade to fade into the front of my brows.

Two: Models Own Now Brow in Medium Brown

I am loving this little set at the moment, it includes little tools which I actually really good and the darkest shade is the most amazing brow powder ever. The only downside for me that the other two shade are completely unusable for me.

Three: Urban Decay Brow Box in Brown Sugar

This is my baby, the darkest powder is literally the most ideal shade for my brows and it applies like a dream. It also comes with great tools and a shade that I can't use but the one dark powder makes it worth it.

Four: Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in 2

I have a love hate relationship with this one, I think the shade I have is too light and I find the pencil way to dry so it is hard to use but on the days when I don't want much on my brows, just a little shape, this is perfect. I simply use it in the tail to make it more defined and it looks super natural and lovely.

Five: Makeup Revolution Brow Pomade in Dark Brown

Another love hate product with this one. I find pomades really hard to use but sometime when I want a sharper looking brow I like to use this on top of a powder just to sharper the tail. It's also a little darker than my powders so it helps create a nice faded effect.

What do you use on your brows? I'd love to try something new.

Let The Pinteresting Begin...

If you have been keeping up with my little blog and my Instagram you'll know that I recently got engaged!

We are planning on a 4 year engagement as we want the time to enjoy just being engaged and slowly gather ideas and plan without the stress of a time limit!

An Engagement Party however is a must! We are still in the collecting ideas stage at the moment, we haven't booked a venue, nothing. I didn't realise how hard it would be to find a decent affordable venue but apparently it is! Currently waiting on about 20 place to return my emails...

We want a relaxed casual little gathering of about 50 people, so our families can all finally meet, our parents have mingled a little bit but our wider families are still to meet.

We're thinking a lovely little pub with a function room and some outdoor space for a daytime gathering with either a buffet or a bbq.

No party is complete without a cake! I know its a cliche but I really love the sparkly letters that go on top of a cake. I love this one! Simple but adorable and straight to the point!

I'm really leaning towards the gold theme! Balloons can easily look tacky but these gold dipped ones would be the most fun DIY and they look great! I also really love the idea of filling clear balloons with gold glitter but I'm a little worried about the clean up when they inevitably get popped!

Invites are what is exciting me most! I'm really liking simple designs with mostly black and white, maybe a little pop of colour as above. This one is to the point, modern and cute which I loveeee!

The simplicity of this one is really alluring me! The curly script, the classic mono tones, adorable! I really am leaning towards this one but I feel that although I like it, my fiancé would much rather a bit of colour!

This invite is my absolute favourite and I have no problems at all sending it out to all of my family but Liam is not so keen! I suggested we just put stars in the word shit to make it a little more family friendly but he still isn't on board!

I personally think it has just the right relaxed personal vibe that we're going for! Hopefully he can be convinced!

I will 100% be doing this! We are huge lovers of going to the cinema, going at least once a week so this is so us it is unreal! Liam could literally eat a lorry full of popcorn in one sitting! We have a popcorn maker at home so this would also be a really cost friendly option for us! The play on the word popped is just adorable as well!

There will no doubt be a whole lot more of this style post coming up so do let me know if you like them!

Hit Or Miss - L'Oreal Miss Baby Roll Waterproof

MISS MISS MISS!

Omg! Is this a miss!

I'm sure you have all heard of this mascara, it was all over youtube for a while and with my pending holidays I thought it would be a great choice for a new waterproof mascara. I did a huge amount of swimming so a waterproof mascara was a must.

The holidays have been and gone now, I used it for 9 whole days over two separate holidays, in the pool everyday so I feel that I can give you a confident review...

Look at the state of my eyelashes, this is moments after it was applied and it is vile.

Everything about this mascara is wrong, it is extremely wet and the brush shape seems to have weird little pockets that the wet mascara collects in so when you apply it such an enormous volume of mascara gets applied to your lashes that it is just uncontrollable. All my lashes get glues together and the more I comb them through the more tangled and glued they get.

I have very long but manageable lashes, I don't usually have this problem because I can just comb them through until they look good but with this mascara that is just not possible.

The lashes looked terrible but one plus side is that it is most definitely waterproof. My lashes held their hideous state well while in the pool !

I honestly don't understand why this mascara works so well for other people but worked so badly for me but I won't be using this one again!
